About Shaheen
Born in Dubai to East-African parents with Indian origin, and having lived in the US before settling in the UK, I often call myself an international citizen. I hold a BSc in Psychology and a Diploma in Montessori Education, and much of my life has been spent working with and for children.
It was a sudden onset of separation anxiety in my daughter that led me to Hand in Hand Parenting. The tools worked like magic — and I felt compelled to share them. I became a Certified Instructor in 2014 and have since helped hundreds of families across the world.
My journey then deepened into Play Therapy, where I gained a Postgraduate Certificate as a Therapeutic Play Practitioner and am working towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Play Therapy. As a registered member of Play Therapy UK (PTUK), I now offer children a safe, expressive space to process their inner world through the language they know best: play.
Work with MeHand in Hand Parenting
I offer a range of services to meet your family wherever you are. Whether you're facing a specific challenge or simply want to deepen your connection with your children, there is something here for you.
When things are hard, sometimes you need personalised help for your unique situation. Whether as an individual, a couple, or divorced parents working together for the sake of your family — I will work with you directly to find clarity and practical solutions.
Learn the core tools of Hand in Hand Parenting — understanding off-track behaviour, reducing stress, and building deeper connection with your child. Whether you're facing tantrums, sibling rivalry, separation anxiety or sleep issues, this course gives you insight and practical tools that work.
The HiH tools are just as powerful with older children — they simply need adapting. This six-week course gives you fresh perspectives, practical strategies and peer support from parents navigating the same terrain. The negative stereotypes about teens and parents don't have to come true.
For expectant parents or those with a baby under one, this mini-course gives you a solid foundation in understanding your baby's brain, using HiH tools from the very start, and navigating topics like sleep and weaning — with the support you deserve during this transformative time.
Engaging, practical and warmly delivered — these talks and workshops bring the Hand in Hand approach to life for groups of parents, schools, community organisations and beyond. Whether a single evening talk or a half-day workshop, each session leaves you with real tools and a fresh perspective to take home.
Payment plans and discounts available — always offered on the basis of need and trust. Please get in touch to discuss.
Play Therapy
Play is a child's natural language. Where adults use words to process their inner world, children use play. Play Therapy is a therapeutically designed space where children aged 3–13 can express, explore and make sense of difficult feelings and experiences — at their own pace, in their own way.
Conventional talking therapies are often inappropriate for children who struggle to articulate their thoughts. Through toys, creative materials and structured play, children can safely communicate what they are not yet able to say in words — leading to real, lasting change.
As a PTUK-registered Therapeutic Play Practitioner, I work with children in private practice, in schools, and online. I also offer parent consultation sessions alongside a child's therapy — because supporting the whole family system is central to the work.
Hertfordshire · North London · Bushey · Watford · Harrow · Barnet · Edgware · Radlett · Elstree · St Albans & surrounding areas
The sessions are child-led, taking a holistic, integrative approach. I provide an extensive toolkit to support the child's creative process:
Sessions are 40 minutes, at the same time and place each week in a confidential space — consistency is vital to create safety and predictability. Sessions are 1-to-1 or delivered to a small group of up to 6 children with a common therapeutic goal.
Confidentiality is maintained throughout; only general themes will be discussed with parents/carers, unless a safeguarding concern arises. All work is supervised by a PTUK-approved clinical supervisor.
"The sign of great parenting is not the child's behaviour. The sign of great parenting is the parent's behaviour."
Testimonials
I have always thought we could all be better listeners and that would enhance our relationships, particularly with our children. But I literally had no idea just how crucial a role this has in connecting to the root of our day-to-day emotions. Being listened to and having quality connections can heal us on a daily basis and allow us to be our best selves for ourselves and our children.
Society needs more men to live the lessons of this course.
Parenting by Connection course has been really enlightening and a complete perspective shift for me in how I see myself in relation to my children. It has helped me pick up their emotional needs through their behaviour, and 'staying listening and staying connected' has made a whole world of difference — literally! Thank you, Shaheen, and the lovely group to make it a safe place. I would commend it to anyone mindful of the biggest blessing and responsibility we have upon our hands — Parenting.
A few weeks ago, I felt overwhelmed and unsure how to help my struggling son. Having weekly one-to-one consultations with Shaheen was exactly what we needed. She was always so supportive, informative and imaginative — giving us practical examples on how to use play to help in each specific situation. I feel a lot calmer and hopeful knowing I have a great source of support when things get tough.
Thank you again Shaheen for everything ❤️
My wife took this course when our son was 18 months and I could immediately see the positive impact it had. So it was an absolute no-brainer signing up for the dad's course! It has helped me understand the needs of our children and how best to address them. It also got my wife and I on the same page in terms of parenting styles. I highly recommend this course for all Dads!
I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside Shaheen during my Hand in Hand journey. The connection being built through this gentle approach with our girls is amazing! Stay listening is really helping. Play listening has been brilliant — the laughter and fun that we have all been sharing as a family has been priceless. I can't thank Shaheen enough for being a part of this journey.
The hand in hand parenting course has been life changing for me and my children, and hopefully the generations to come. I've learnt practical ways to connect with my children that has helped me identify and address parenting challenges. Shaheen is incredibly well versed with the methodology and her kind and caring character makes the sessions a true joy.
I would highly recommend the parenting by connection course. Its ethos and tools feel very natural, gentle and nurturing, and definitely applicable in everyday life. My family have enjoyed implementing them and noticed huge changes in our daughter within just 5 weeks. Thank you, Shaheen, for your mentoring and guidance. This has been the best 6 weeks I have spent on learning how to adjust my parenting skills!
I highly recommend this course to all of my family and friends because it really rings true with the true essence of parenting for me. Through learning about how to connect with your child, the tools you will learn will change your life and your relationships. For me, it's taught me about doing the best I can for my kids and also doing the best I can for me. Life changing and eye opening in every way possible!
I really recommend the tween/teen course because it truly helped me tackle my problems with my children. The course goes into detail on how we change the wiring at this stage. I wish the course was longer than 2 hours — it really charged my batteries every week. Thank you Shaheen for switching on the light bulb!
I really recommend this course to parents old and new — for those who would like to parent their children without having to resort to threats and fights. Hand in Hand Parenting has shown me its benefits from day 1. I used to struggle with tantrums and had a very low threshold, but now I feel more in control, more composed, and have a more cooperative child. Thank you Hand in Hand! And thank you Shaheen.
Prior to joining the course, I was a new mum that was overwhelmed and overtired. I needed guidance on managing my emotions and truly understanding my baby. Shaheen's course provided me with exactly what I needed. I now trust my intuition more when it comes to attending to my baby's needs and truly feel calmer in situations where I'd normally panic. Thank you Shaheen, for being a great facilitator in this wonderful but challenging journey of motherhood.
Shaheen's baby course helped me more than she'll ever know. She made me feel so much more sure of myself as a mum and I looked forward to every session. She made it really easy to have difficult conversations and provided a safe space to have them in. I'm really looking forward to doing the full HiH course!
I'd really like to recommend the teen course — I found it a really good refresher of old skills whilst facilitating the adaption of these skills for our teenagers! In addition, gaining a deeper understanding of the teenage brain was really useful to help understand what they are going through at this time!
For years I struggled with my kids before I realised our status quo had to change. I searched for answers everywhere — from scholars, counselors, podcasts. They brought me closer to what I felt was true, but nothing fit just right. Shaheen's course addressed the entire foundation and framework of my parenting, all the while feeling like she was holding my hand through the process. I felt rescued. And for that I'm so grateful.
As a single father to a beautiful boy, Shaheen's consultations have really helped me break through some difficulties I had in raising him in a Hand-in-Hand way. Being able to have Zoom consultations with Shaheen and my son's mother improved our relationship as parents also. You got us through the challenges of starting nursery, fussy eating and limiting screen time. Thanks to your efforts, our boy is getting an exceptional start in life.
While the lockdown period was hard for everyone to handle, I found myself lost in my approach to raising my children. So I signed up for Parenting by Connection, a 6-week coaching with the impeccable support of Shaheen. Not only were the materials complete and the content well explained — she was there whenever I had questions. She really helped me see education in a better way and always listened without judging, while giving us advice and sharing various experiences.
Over the past year, my husband and I had been really struggling with our son's defiance and behavioural issues. We felt like we were failing parents. Shaheen worked with us closely and guided us on how to deal with the issues using a completely different approach. We are at a very different place today. We have seen drastic improvements not only in our son, but in our own ability to cope and adapt to situations.
Thank you Shaheen for all your efforts.
There's so much information and noise out there on social media, which for a pregnant person can be extremely overwhelming. Shaheen's course did not disappoint — it taught me things which are so simple and make so much sense, yet I never would have thought about them that way. She set up a WhatsApp group with my cohort and I'm still in touch with half of them! Even now that my baby is born, I find myself trusting my instincts more — and when she's sleeping, I'll go back to the slides to remind myself!
Shaheen's weekly classes were my much needed therapy sessions and they were very missed once we reached the end of them. She was incredibly supportive, knowledgeable, understanding and non-judgemental. Even though I was doing the course with a group of three other ladies, she took the time to support us each individually with our own struggles. I 100% recommend Shaheen for anyone struggling with their children/teens or just wanting to elevate their relationship with them to a more mindful or meaningful one.
I did the teen course with Shaheen and it was such an enjoyable experience. I looked forward to our weekly meet up and have taken on her invaluable advice and personalised feedback. It has definitely had a positive impact on my relationship with my young teens and I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is struggling with their teen or just wants to connect with them and understand them better.
